Carbines Shine at National Schools Champs
Thursday, 1 October 2009
The Australian All Schools Orienteering Champs were held in sunny Victoria over the last few days. The NSW Schools Team (the Carbines) performed with distinction in the event.
The junior girls of Michele Dawson, Nicola Blatchford, Alinta Merrotsy, Bridget Bennett, Felicity Barker-Smith and Rhianna Roberts were outstanding over the 2 days of competition. The girls were placed 2nd overall and the relay team finished 2nd in a very tight finish.
The junior boys of Lewis Berkholtz, Angus Roberts, Matthew Hill and Chris Yuan also performed strongly. The highlight for the junior boys was a barnstorming run in the relay to be the first placed Australian team.
The senior girls of Sally-Anne Henderson and Eleanor Ross posted very strong results. Eleanor has been consistently placed in the top 8 of W17-20E during the week.
The senior boys of Josh Blatchford, Kas Gregory, Alex Massey, Huon Wilson, Rob Bennett and Glen Charlton have been a force to contend with. Josh and Alex had top 10 finishes in the individual race. The senior boys relay had a stunning run to be first across the line after holding out the other States in a tight finish. However, the MP gremlin appeared at the finish tent to the disappointment of all - but the boys' performance was still very impressive.
Michele Dawson and Matthew Hill were selected in the junior division of the Australian All Schools Honours Team.
The Carbines were the 4th placed State overall and were celebrating at the disco last evening ...

Thank you to managers Karen and Russell Blatchford and coach Mark Darvodelsky for looking after, supporting and encouraging the team throughout the carnival and the lead up.
