 A month ago quite a few of you were tired and elated – the result of helping to deliver a very successful, but demanding World Masters Orienteering Champs.

Despite the need for extended periods of concentration, and the requirement for  silent starts preventing the usual friendly interaction between organisers and competitors, most people I have spoken to really enjoyed their volunteering stint. They found it rewarding to be part of such a large international event and to interact with the overseas competitors and other volunteers (from within orienteering and from outside the sport).

Having seen how a large international event is run, and felt the vibe from being a part of such an event, I understand that even more NSW orienteers are now considering competing in Europe.

On behalf of the Orienteering Association of New South Wales I would like to add my thanks to those of Nick Dent and the rest of the organising teams to all the orienteers (and family and non-orienteers!) who gave up their time to make WMOC such a fantastic showcase of Australian orienteering and hospitality.

 I would also like to thank Nick, his organising committee and the team leaders for all of their hard work and dedication in achieving such a great result. Below are some of the notes of appreciation received by Nick Dent after the conclusion of the World Masters. Everyone involved should feel justifiably proud of having a hand in the event’s success.
