NSW State League

The NSW State League events are a series of 10-13 high quality bush events held between March and October each year. State League events are usually held outside of Sydney, on areas of private property or in State Forests. Individuals compete in a range of age classes and grades and the results contribute to the annual "Orienteer of the Year" competition and the Interclub Trophy.

Pre-entry is required for NSW State League events. Entries normally close a few weeks before each event as detailed in the event information. A limited number of "enter-on-day" courses are usually also available at each event, but you won't be able to compete in the normal State League age-classes or be eligible for State League points.

The SportIdent electronic timing system is used at NSW State League events.

Details of the NSW State League events for 2010 are available via the links in the calendar below. The State League Results page is here.

State League Point Scores

The results of each State League event count towards the "Orienteer of the Year" competition, an annual points-based competition in each age class (except M/W-10N). At each event, points are awarded to each competitor based on their time in comparison to the winners time in their class. The following formula is used:

Points = 100 - ([ CT - WT ] / WT) x 100

where:

CT = competitors time in minutes
WT = winners time (for that class) in minutes.

The resulting score is rounded to the nearest whole number. The winner of each class receives 100 points. The best 7 scores for each competitor are added to determine their total score for the year, giving a maximum possible score of 700.

State League Interclub Competition

At each State League event, points are allocated to clubs based on the membership of the first 5 NSW finishers in each class.

The points allocated are:

1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
5th - 1 point

The points obtained at each State League are added together and the winning club at the end of the year receives the "NSW Interclub Competition" trophy.
