Orienteering for Schools in NSW

Orienteering NSW has a long history of support for the development of Orienteering as a schools sport in NSW. This support has played a major role in making NSW the overall most successful state at the annual Australian Schools Orienteering Championships.

Currently Orienteering NSW has two Schools Development Officers who can assist schools with the organisation, development and promotion of the sport (see Services for Schools).

The NSW Schools Team is also fortunate to have the backing of the Carbine Club of NSW. Each year, this group of Business and Sporting people provide financial assistance to enable the NSW Schools Team to travel interstate to compete in the Australian Schools Championships. The NSW Schools Team is therefore proud to be known as "The Carbines".

Junior League 2010

Thursday, 18 February 2010

OANSW is pleased to launch the Junior Orienteering League for 2010.

Junior orienteers are invited to enter the Series and participate in up to eight events between 2 May and 19 September.  An exciting range of events have been included in this year’s Series.  The Series opener will be in Centennial Park which is always a fabulous venue.  Next up will be the Sprints at Macquarie Uni followed by a variety of parks and bush areas across Sydney.  In addition, one event will be conducted in the Hunter Valley and will provide technical challenges and a great opportunity to sample some bush orienteering.

All events will include a variety of courses.  These will include very easy navigation (Blue level) for young orienteers, courses with slightly more difficult but still easy navigation (Green level) as well as longer, moderate level navigation (Orange level) courses for older entrants.  At the Hunter Valley event, a more difficult (Red level) course will also be available to test the more experienced juniors.

Entries are open until 23 April 2010 and the first event is scheduled for Sunday 2 May.

Entry forms are available here.

Please note that all entrants should be members of an orienteering club.  Club membership applications are available here.

All enquiries should be directed to Barbara Hill on 0418270476 or Bhill@three.com.au.
